Wyatt Earp

Blue Velvet (Blu-ray) (DVDVerdict)
# The Charge
It's a strange world.
# Opening Statement
Over 25 years after it first blew audiences' minds, David Lynch's **Blue
Velvet** arrives on Blu-ray with a stunning transfer and some must-see bonus
features. It's like the movie is brand new again.
# Facts of the Case
Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle Maclachlan, **Showgirls**) returns home to his quiet
town from college after his father's health fails, and isn't home for long at
all before making a chilling discovery in the field near the hospital: a
severed human ear laying in the grass. After taking the ear to the police,
Jeffrey and wholesome teenager Sandy (Laura Dern, **We Don't Live Here Any
More**) drawn into a mystery involving a damaged nightclub singer (Isabella
Rossellini, **Wyatt Earp**), a psychotic criminal (Dennis Hopper, **Speed**)
and, of course, the owner of the ear.
# The Evidence
David Lynch's 1986 film **Blue Velvet** might just be the most important movie
in his very impressive filmography. Though **Eraserhead** helped announce him
and both **Dune** and **The Elephant Man** found him attempting to mesh his
very particular sensibilities with a commercial aesthetic (one more
successfully than the other), it was **Blue Velvet** that really provided his
breakthrough and ...

Musical Depreciation Revue Anthology $31.98 If timing is everything, then it was doubly so in the music of Spike Jones. Whoopee-cushion horns, gunshots, belches, malapropisms--each element of Jones's parodies fell just right, which is amazing considering that his peak came before the advent of tape allowed for careful editing. Jones and his City Slickers--a group that included the likes of Doodles Weaver and Sir Frederic Gas--engaged themse... |

Sings Ballads of True West $3.93 Though not among Johnny Cash's strongest overall efforts, True West is not a completely failed experiment, either. Originally released in 1965 as a double album, it weaves Cash's narrations and original compositions with traditional songs and interpretations of other writers' material to draw one man's portrait of the Old West. Cash turns in some of his sturdiest vocals, virtually inhabiting the l... |

American Experience: Wyatt Earp - $19.99 Discover the true story of iconic Wild West lawman Wyatt Earp in this installment of American Experience. His reputation as a deadeye quick-draw cemented during the shootout at the O.K. Corral, Earp would later rise to the status of folk hero thanks for his tireless efforts in taming the west. But Earp wasn't always the do-gooder the legends made him out to be. In this documentary, filmmakers eschew the myth in favor of the man, tracing the troubled youth of a drifting opportunist who married young, then fell in with a lawless crowd following his wife's untimely death. It was precisely those underworld ties, however, that helped to establish Earp's credibility as a lawman, and led him straight to the 1881 gunfight that historians are still talking about today. Later, after avenging his brother's death and fleeing to Los Angeles, Earp spend his last days searching for redemption, and a means of reclaiming his tarnished image. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Wyatt Earp: The Life Behind the Legend $17.79 "Quite impressive. I doubt if there has been or will be a more deeply researched and convincing account." --Evan Connell, author Son of the Morning Star: Custer and the Little Bighorn "The book to end all Earp books--the most complete, and most meticulously researched." --Jack Burrows, author John Ringo: The Gunfighter Who Never Was "The most thoughtful, well-researched, and comprehensive account that has been written about the development and career of an Old-West lawman." --The Tombstone Tumbleweed "A great adventure story, and solid history." --Kirkus Reviews "A major contribution to the history of the American West. It provides the first complete and accurate look at Wyatt Earp's colorful career, and places into context the important role that he and his brothers played in crime and politics in the Arizona territory. This important book rises above the realm of Western biography and shows the development of the Earp story in history and myth, and its effect on American culture." --John Boessenecker, author Gold Dust and Gunsmoke "The ultimate Wyatt Earp book." --Professor Richard Brown University of Oregon |

Wyatt Earp: The Legend...the Man...the Untold Story $3.95 Before the legend, there was the man...and a powerful destiny to fulfill. On October 26, 1881, three outlaws lay dead in a dusty vacant lot in Tombstone, Arizona. Standing over them-- Colts smoking-- were Wyatt Earp, his two brothers Morgan and Virgil, and a gun-slinging gambler named Doc Holliday. The shootout at the O.K. Corral was over-- but for Earp, the fight had just begun. Wyatt Earp was a man who craved fame, power and prominence. He came to Tombstone with a plan to get elected sheriff, and a dream of building the biggest business empire the booming mining town had ever seen. But by Christmas, both his brothers had been struck down, and their assassins were coming after him and Doc Holliday. For Earp, a man of ambition and pride, it would mean putting aside his dream for one last fight...not for glory, but revenge. |
