Widescreen dvd?
I'm buying some dvds, but I don't want the black milk box look on my screen. I just want it to be the picture. So do I buy widescreen or full screen? Also, on the ipod- does anyone know approx. how many gb is a half hour of video and/or an hour of video?
If you have a widescreen TV (16:9 aspect ratio), make sure you buy widescreen DVDs. If you have an older TV (4:3 aspect ratio), make sure you buy fullscreen DVDs. Most widescreen DVDs will still have black bars top and bottom even on a widescreen TV because they are mastered not in 16:9, but 2.35:1. 2.35:1 is also referred to as "anamorphic widescreen," and is preferred because it maintains the original aspect ratio of the theatrical presentation. If these bars annoy you, you can play around with the aspect-ratio control if your TV has that feature, and take the black bars off, but at the cost of chopping off parts of the picture.
