A Review of the TomTom Brand of GPS Systems

GPS technology was still very uncomplicated in the era when global positioning was regarded as a scientific and engineering breakthrough. After that, its popularity soared and the intended demographic was car owners who travel a lot over long distances. Nowadays you will shop for GPS devices in many local malls and shopping outlets since today with even better technology, GPS devices are now helping drivers in getting to their destinations without delay and easily. TomTom GPS devices have further specialized their lineup to cater to both the everyday motorist and extreme traveler. TomTom actually went to great lengths by designing several product lineups, each with its own numerical series. Another great unit to consider is the Garmin Nuvi 780 GPS System.

TomTom GO

TomTom GO was the initial lineup, introduced in 2005 and is still going strong with its latest product released just last year. TomTom GPS GO devices are all-in-one devices that are designed to carry out standard GPS jobs that are ideal for normal travel in the vehicle or in a boat. Nearly all of this company’s most recent models include Bluetooth, which makes it a breeze to synchronize with the Windows or Mac platforms. It also provides connectivity with smartphones. This ability will allow you to send and receive calls on your TomTom GO without removing your hands from the steering wheel.

Some of the more expensive models have text-to-speech functions where the instructions are said out loud so drivers are able to stay focused on driving. TomTom’s original lineup is series of choice for GPS beginners because the devices are user-friendly and the list of features are outstanding.

TomTom ONE

A TomTom GPS could be rather high-priced for normal car owners. The models in the TomTom GO series are no exception as a result of all the capabilities they come with. This issue resulted in the release of the TomTom ONE collection which was made to accomodate those with less disposable income. Before you become too wound up about their remarkably low prices as opposed to the TomTom GO, think about perusing the list of features for the model that you plan to buy.

Considering functionality, the processors are a bit slow, so it may stall if you use it too long, but the RAM is about the same and the ONE XL offers a widescreen, making it appear similar to a TomTom GO unit. However, the text-to-speech software is not provided on the TomTom ONE, and very few TomTom ONEs can employ Bluetooth. If such limitations are fine with you, you’ll be happy with the money you’ll save by purchasing a TomTom ONE. On the other hand, think about getting a GO seeing as it is better equipped and is more reliable.

TomTom RIDER

You will usually use GPS devices in vehicles nowadays, so the models almost always come with auto mounts. Unfortunately, car mounts aren’t usable on Motorcycles. The TomTom RIDER is specifically intended for mounting on motorcycles. TomTom’s RIDER has a useful bundle of bells and whistles, making it about equal with the GO series and may likely be the safest motorcycle GPS device you could find. Their price tag is somewhat alarming, though. An alternative unit to consider is the Garmin Nuvi 780 GPS System.

Every one of the TomTom appliances are quite reliable for GPS navigation. The TomTom ONE models are quite underwhelming, but their price reflects that. The recommended model for you will be influenced by what applications you desire. There are lots of models for your discernment, and it’s likely that one should live up to your standards.

Season four of Lost was a fine return to form for the series, which polarized its audience the year before with its focus on The Others and not enough on our original crash victims. Brand Upon the Brain! - Widescreen

Guy Maddin wrote and directed this wildly idiosyncratic look at one man revisiting his dysfunctional childhood. Guy (Erik Steffan Maahs) is a house painter who, at the urging of his aging mother (Gretchen Krich), returns to the tiny Canadian island where he grew up to put a fresh coat of paint on the lighthouse that was the family home. As Guy tries to cover the wear and tear of many years, he can't help but think back to his troubled youth; young Guy (Sullivan Brown) and his older sister (Maya Lawson) had to compete for attention with the children of the small orphanage Mother operated, while Father (Todd Jefferson Moore) spent most of his time in the basement, working on his latest invention. When a number of the orphans began displaying strange wounds on their heads, the island received a visit from Wendy Hale (Katherine E. Scharhon), a young detective who, along with her brother Chase, had become famous as "the Lightbulb Kids," the heroes of a series of popular books. Guy became quite infatuated with Wendy, and when the teen crime-fighter disguised herself as her brother Chase, Sis developed a powerful attraction to the "young man." As angry orphan Savage Tom (Andrew Loviska) leads a revolt of the youngsters, Chase and the Maddin siblings began to uncover the terrible secret behind Mother's and Father's seemingly unrelated occupations. Shot as a silent film, Brand Upon the Brain! was initially shown as a special presentation with live musical accompaniment from an 11-piece ensemble as well as three sound effects artists and a celebrity narrator. For later screenings, a soundtrack was prepared for the film that included the original musical score and sound effects, as well as narration by Isabella Rossellini. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A college student whose new neighbors are a little too long in the tooth for comfort discover just how tough it can be to live next door to a clan of undead blood-suckers in a plasma-spewing vampire flick starring Todd Bridges and driven by a breakneck punk rock soundtrack. When Tom notices that his new neighbors keep a strictly nocturnal schedule, a closer look reveals a frightening reason for their curious case of their apparent photophobia. Aided in his investigation by both a pair of curious roommates and a world weary private investigator (Todd Bridges) who is more than a little familiar with this particular brand of night-dweller, Tom soon finds the property value in his neighborhood is set to take a serious plunge when the undead neighbors vow to keep their deadly secret safe at all costs. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Producer/director Bert I. Gordon began his career-long devotion to movies about giant-sized people and animals with this low-budget chiller, which has a surprisingly strong cast of onetime Hollywood leading men. Gloria Talbott plays Susan Winter, a young American woman who hires soldier-of-fortune Russ Bradford James Craig to lead an expedition into a remote valley in Mexico where her fiance, Bruce Barton, was lost in a plane crash two years earlier. Also along are greedy speculator Martin Melville (Lon Chaney Jr.) and pilot Lee Brand (Tom Drake). They get to the valley and discover that it is, as was rumored, rich in deposits of uranium, but also dangerously radioactive -- the immediate threats include giant insects and spiders and huge mutated lizards, but Susan is positive that they're being watched by an unseen observer. The title creature, 25 feet tall with a disfigured face, a single eye, and motivated by the most bestial of impulses, shows himself by trapping them inside of a cave, and quicker than you can say Polyphemus, the rescue mission becomes a fight for survival that has a particularly nasty, bitter ending. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

Five men desperately try to recover their memories and piece together the traumatic events of the past several days in this independent thriller. In an abandoned warehouse, a handful of men slowly regain consciousness, but they've been stricken with amnesia and have no idea who they are, where they are, or what has happened to them. All five seem to have been in some sort of serious scuffle; one is tied up (Joe Pantoliano), another has been handcuffed (Jeremy Sisto), a third has a broken nose (Greg Kinnear), and the other two have their share of scrapes and bruises (Jim Caviezel and Barry Pepper). As the men compare the tiny shards of memory they can pull from their minds, one finds a newspaper from two days before, which features a front-page story about the kidnapping of a wealthy and well-known businessman. The men begin to suspect that they were involved with the kidnapping, but no one is sure if they're on the right or wrong side of the law -- or if one of them might happen to be the victim. The first feature film from veteran music-video director Simon Brand, Unknown also stars Peter Stormare, Bridget Moynahan, and Clayne Crawford. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A woman wakes up in an unfamiliar and terrifying world in this grim horror tale inspired by a true story. After coming home from a date, forty-ish single mom Hope (Nadja Brand Mason) thanks the babysitter, looks in on her six-year-old daughter, and goes to bed. When she wakes up, Hope discovers she was abducted in the night and is trapped inside a coffin-like wooden box that's been buried beneath the ground. When she's dug up and released, Hope learns she's being held captive by a man with no name (Eric Colvin) living in the woods who then ties her to a tree and gives her a razor she can use to free herself -- though she won't be able to do so without severely scarring herself. After a failed break for freedom, Hope realizes her only chance for survival is to bend to the will of her captor, though her desire is largely fueled by a need to know what's become of her daughter. Two months later, Hope has learned more than she ever wanted to know about primitive life with her fearsome master when she's joined by a new victim, a frightened teenage girl (Abbey Stirling). Broken was the fourth feature from director Adam Mason and his first in collaboration with co-director Simon Boyes, who made his feature debut with this movie. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
