D.J. Tiƫsto Would Love Tom Brady to Model His New Line of T-shirts (nymag)
If celebrities like clothes, and if they know someone who can help them make
clothes with their own personal vision, they will go forth into this great and
challenging retail landscape and put out a line. This right, ye celebrities
will agree, may as well be of the divine nature, God-given to those who are
very gifted in other ways. D.J. Tiesto, whose chief gifts are musical, says
that his Clvb Life clothing line, which launches today at Kitson Los Angeles
and Atrium in New York and Miami, was inevitable, considering his love of
fashion. Created with the help of his partners, who include Sean John's Jeff
Tweedy, Tiesto's line consists only of T-shirts for now (men's are $68,
women's are $56), but he plans to grow the business until he has enough for a
runway show of his very own. These days, can the importance of slow growth
really be overstated? We called Tiesto in his Montreal hotel room the other
day to talk about the line, nightclub and rave style, and his dream T-shirt
models. **

But Jimmy's new neighbors (Rosanna Arquette and Matthew Perry) soon figure out who he is. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi The Whole Ten Yards Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry reprise their roles as a killer for hire and a dentist with a bad case of nerves in this sequel to the comedy hit The Whole Nine Yards. Former hitman Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis) has retired from his life of crime and is living a quiet life of cooking and housekeeping in Mexico, despite the fact his wife, Jill (Amanda Peet), a would-be hired killer, still wants to keep her hand in the business. Tudeski has been able to convince the authorities he's dead thanks to dental records falsified by his former neighbor Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky (Matthew Perry), who lives in Los Angeles. But Oseransky discovers that not everyone is fooled by Tudeski's handiwork when his wife, Cynthia (Natasha Henstridge), is kidnapped by Lazlo Gogolak (Kevin Pollak) and his goons. Gogolak is a high-ranking member of the Hungarian mafia, and Tudeski previously murdered his son, so he's abducted Cynthia in order to get Oseransky to reveal the hired killer's current whereabouts. But Tudeski has come to like the quiet life, and isn't so sure he wants to face Gogolak and his crew for the sake of a jittery dentist who once did him a favor. Most of the principle cast of The Whole Nine Yards returned for this sequel, though director Howard Deutch stepped in to replace Jonathan Lynn, who was working on The Fighting Temptations when The Whole Ten Yards went into production. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

The Whole Nine Yards $17.95 The Whole Nine Yards offers poems spanning the career of former Poet Laureate Daniel Hoffman. These explore violence and transcendence in realistic, gothic, and comic modes, as they tell of war, cold war, domestic violence, bureaucratic oppression, and a compassionate rescue at sea. Searching and lyrical suites celebrate the births of children, recoup a year in wartime France, and meditate on life and death, the seen and the unseen. Hoffman aims to share the pleasures of dramatizing language, theme, and form in dimensions new to his work. The result is a compelling collection from a distinguished poet. |

Ballpark: Camden Yards and the Building of an American Dream $3.95 Named one of the "Ten Best Sports Books" by "The Sporting News, Ballpark" is the compelling story of how Baltimore's magnificent Camden Yards ballpark was born, and the effects it has had on the city, the team, and the whole course of stadiumbuilding across the country. It's both an examination of the city's psyche and a close look behind the scenes at our national pastime. This is a quintessentially American story of progress, movement, change, triumph, and of an eternal renewal of hope. |

Ten Commandments $9.89 Ten Commandments is a book-length sequence of poems that plot the rules we were raised on, rules we forget but can't evade. Here is the whole underworld of desire, its tasks and perversions. Here are the iron laws and the way the heart is shaped by them, even as it prefers betrayal, adultery, murder, or greed. J. D. McClatchy draws on intimate authobiographical details, and on a range of historical incidents that includes an eerie account of Proust in a brothel and a chilling glimpse of Eichmann in Argentina. Sideshow freaks, snipers in Vietnam, Auden's dictionary, whirling dervishes, motel and mammogram, slave and saint--this book is a cabinet of moral curiosities, a collage of emotional astonishments. When McClatchy's previous book, The Rest of the Way , was published in 1990, he was given an Award in Literature by the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, whose citation concluded, "it may be that no more eloquent poet will emerge in his American generation." With Ten Commandments , there can be no question of his mastery. Here is that rare eloquence indeed, charged with passion and raised to a remarkable new power. From the Trade Paperback edition. |
