Menino sees bio, tech uses if postal service exits (Biz Journal)
Mayor Thomas M. Menino says he's not expecting the U.S. Postal Service to make
a decision any time soon on whether to close its huge processing center behind
South Station, but if it does exit he could see life sciences or a technology
company moving into the area. Menino said he did not envision incubator space
on the site, but perhaps bio-space and technology. As many possibilities as
the site might hold, Menino said, the fact is that the U.S. Postal Service
must make a move. “We’ll be grandfathers and grandmothers again and again
before the Post Office makes a decision,” he said While the mayor does not
have a clear-cut plan, he said, he is concerned about the parcel’s becoming
overbuilt and the impact on people who live nearby...
