can you get a great dane like scooby doo?
I have a pug named pj, and im thinking about getting another dog. We also have a rotweiler and a pitbull (not vicious at all) but they live with my dad. Im thinking about getting a great dane but i want one with the same color sheme as scooby doo, ( i know they dont come in this color) but i want something that resemblems it.
No, you can't because, as you know, they don't come in that color. (Scooby is light brown with a couple of black spots. He's kind of like a chocolate version of a harlequin.)
You should never support unethical breeding practices, so the only way to get unrecognized colors is either from a reputable breeder who is surprised by a throwback color in one of his/her litters, or more likely, through a rescue group. Still, the somewhat common unrecognized colors are nothing like Scooby. There's merelequin and fawnequin, and fawn mantle, merle mantle, porcelain (a harl with blue patches instead of black) and occasionally even a brindlequin or brindle mantle.
I can't post the picture here, but I do have one picture of a Dane that is about as close to Scooby as it gets. It's light brown with chocolate brown patches, kind of like a red merle in other breeds (with no white). It's the first, and only, one I've seen with this coloring in over 40 years being involved with Danes.
Again, if you want a mis-mark, a rescue is the best bet since those dogs are typically the product of backyard breeding and responsibly-bred Danes simply don't find their way into rescue (responsible breeders have a contract requiring the dog be returned to them at any time in the dog's life, should the person encounter ownership difficulties).
