A Saturday Morning Trip To The Furniture Stores
Georgia told Toby to stop grumbling as they walked into the fourth furniture showroom that morning. He couldn't get it through his head that she really loved sleigh beds. He said they already had a twin sleigh bed in their house for their daughter and wasn't that enough? She said not really, not quite enough. She wanted one for their room too.
The saleslady responsible for the bedroom furniture department stepped forward from the row of smiling salespeople standing at the front of the store. Georgia wore a relatively new suit and dress shoes. She believed furniture saleswomen treated you with more respect if you looked as if you could afford all the furniture you wanted. Once they had worn old paint-stained jeans in a furniture store and got snubbed while others were waited on.
A salesman walked them over to the bedroom furniture. He asked what they were looking for today and Georgia said, a new bed, a new sleigh bed. Toby said, a king size bed. The salesman saw that they agreed and looked forward to a sale. King sized beds were most expensive and would provide him with a bigger commission. He mentioned that bedding sets were on sale today too.
They looked at all the beds and Georgia asked how Toby liked each one. He kept repeating that he just wanted it to be big. He loved to watch the news while he stretched out before drifting off to sleep each night.
Georgia stopped dead in her tracks and saw the king sleigh bed she knew she wanted. It was elaborately carved with fancy carvings on the headboard, foot board and even on the sideboards. The curve of the entire bed was quite lovely. As she smiled, she told the saleswoman they might like this one.
She confirmed Georgia's opinion that it appeared to be cherry wood. They talked about how massive in size it was. Cherry would provide a complementary touch to their bedroom filled with dark oak furniture. It even matched the cherry computer desk in the corner. Toby thought it was big enough to stretch out in and they agreed, this was the bed they wanted.
Handing over his credit card they discussed the delivery date and they decided to get the bedding right away too. On the way out Toby mentioned he was glad that search was over. Georgia said it was worth looking around for just what they wanted. She reminded him of the contemporary bar stools they had spend hours looking for and how much he liked them. He agreed they were perfect too.
