Celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2010
Before this St. Patrick's Day 2010, you should learn a little about Ireland's history so you can really wow your friends. While the story of St. Patrick is often up for debate, scholars can agree that he was sold into slavery as a teenager, where he became a sheep farmer. Upon his escape to France, he experienced an inspirational vision, became a priest and later became the second Bishop to Ireland. He is noted for establishing schools, churches and monasteries around the country. In his preaching, he often used three-leafed shamrocks as a metaphor of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit Trinity, which is why it is so much a symbol of Ireland today. Once you've brushed up on your Irish history, here are some other ways to celebrate.
Wearing festive green attire or accessories is one of the ways you can celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2010. Often you'll see extremists along the parade route dressed in green from head to toe, but a true Irishman would wear a more subtle touch of green; perhaps a green tie, a green hat or a green shirt. There are "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" shirts, Guinness shirts, collared green polo shirts and sweaters from which to choose. You can also accessorize with shamrock pins, Celtic jewelry or go really hog-wild and buy a funny leprechaun costume. Some people have been known to dye their hair green or use colored spray on their pets to show their Irish pride.
Pubs will be alive with the spirit of St. Patrick's Day 2010! Lucky residents of the New England area and upper eastern quadrant of the United States are blessed with a number of Irish bars and pubs. Many people like to organize an Irish pub crawl in their city, renting a bus to transport family and friends to up to ten different bars. Raise your glass and say, "Slainte," which is Irish for "to your health."
