Glorious Concepts for Building Your First Home Theater System

If you’ve never built your own home theater system, you’re
in for a fun surprise. Home theater systems can be super simple or totally
complicated depending on what your goals are. The goal of this article is to
give you some great ideas on building your own home theater system without
making it too hard.

What are home theater systems?

If you’re not sure what a home theater system actually is,
let me give you a few insights. It wasn’t that long ago that the only way to
enjoy a movie was at the cinema. If your goal was to go and experience deep bass and the
excitement of a movie you really had to go to a movie theater to experience all
that great surround sound.

But a home theater system, allows you to set your own music
and movie parameters within your own home. You have a very flexible range of
different types and styles of components and speakers you can use to create your
own personalized home theater experience. Home theaters have actually got
gotten so sophisticated that for a very reasonable amount of money you can have
a great sounding set up in your own home.

How to find a home theater system that works best for you

If you’re already into electronics you may be tempted to go
and piece together your own home theater system based on what you know about
different high quality components. But, if you don’t know that much about home
theater type equipment or speakers there are a lot of great resources for you.
It’s actually very easy now to go online and find lots of great home theater
deals that you can shop for from the comfort of your computer screen.

There are a number of high quality brands you can choose from. I would stay away from any of the lower quality brands as you're defeating the whole point of a home theater system at that point. Some great brands to consider starting out would be: Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, Marantz and possibly Yamaha. Most of these brands have all-in-one systems or seperate components you can choose from.

If you're shopping online, read lots and lots of reviews before making a decision. You'll be able to get a good feel for which system will probably work best for you. If you're shopping in a store, keep in mind that even though you can actually listen to what it sounds like, it will probably sound different in your own home because of the different acoustics.

Determine your budget

It’s very important to decide what your home theater budget
is. Once you’ve decided on a budget you can then break down how much you have
to work with for each of your different home theater components. Also, your
budget will determine whether or not you can afford separate components or if
it would make more sense to purchase an all-in-one type system.

As an example, if your budget was around $1000, you could
afford to spend $400 on a receiver and then around $400 for your speakers. That would
still leave you an additional $200 for something like a Blu-ray player and
things like speaker wire.

If your budget is smaller, say around $500 total, then you
might be better off purchasing an all-in-one home theater system. This means
your're purchasing everything built-in. You’re getting your speakers, subwoofer, receiver and your DVD or Blu-ray player all combined
together in one system. When you have a smaller budget starting out this is a
great option. Even if you plan on spending more money, this can still be a good option
because it will allow you to get a feel for what you like and don’t like about
your home theater system without investing a lot of money.
