Killer Of Chandra Levy Sentenced To 60 Years
Chandra Levy's killer gets 60 years in prison as the most famous cold case in the last ten years is now closed. In November of 2010, Ingmar Guandique was convicted of the crime though previous Congressman Gary Condit was suspected at first because he and Levy were having an affair. Guandique, an illegal immigrant, had already been convicted of attacking women within the same area.
Sentence because of attacks served by Salvadoran illegal immigrant
Gary Condit is the Congressman numerous thought Levy was having an affair with then Chandra Levy disappeared in 2001 leading numerous to believe Condit did it. News of the affair cost Condit his post within the House of Representatives. Reuters explained that Rock Creek Park in Washington D.C. was where her remains were found in 2002 although numerous forgot about the case as there wasn’t much to investigate. However, a man who had been convicted of attacks on other women, Salvadoran illegal immigrant Ingmar Guandique, became a prime suspect. Levy went jogging within the Rock Creek Park area where Guandique had been assaulting women that jogged there which got him put in jail. This brought prosecutors to take a look at the case once again.
Sixty year sentence for Guandique
In Nov. 2010, Ingmar Guandique was convicted of murdering Levy after already serving time for previous assaults. The presiding judge sentenced him to 60 years in prison for murder, which is double the minimum but shy of the maximum penalty of life in prison, as outlined by the newest York Times. Life in prison wasn’t the sentence from Judge Gerald Fisher. This is because Guandique was “close to” but he didn’t “conclude that he’s the worst of all the worst.” “You are lower than a cockroach … (expletive) you,” is what Chandra Levy’s mom Susan said to Guandique. MSNBC reports this happened at the trial.
Judge says no to a new trial
Attorneys for Guandique requested that a new trial happen. Judge Fisher denied this though. In evidence, prosecuting attorneys talked about Guandique’s reason for leaving El Salvador. They said he attacked women there too. Defense attorneys argued that jurors had shared notes during a trial. The issue was minor, according to the judge. It wouldn’t affect the end result of the hearing.

Who Is Man? $5.94 One of the world's most illustrious and influential theologians here confronts one of the crucial philosophical and religious questions of our time: the nature and role of man. In these three lectures, originally delivered in somewhat different form as The Raymond Fred West Memorial Lectures at Stanford University in May 1963, Dr. Heschel inquires into the logic of being human: What is meant by being human? What are the grounds on which to justify a human being's claim to being human? In the author's words, "We have never been as openmouthed and inquisitive, never as astonished and embarrassed at our ignorance about man. We know what he makes, but we do not konw wha he is or what to expect of him. Is it not conceivable that our entire civilization is built upon a minsinterpretation of man? Or that the tragedy of man is due to the fact that he is a being who has forgotten the question: Who is Man? The failure to identify himself, to know what is authentic human existence, leads him to assume a false identity, to pretending to be what he is unable to be or to not accepting what is at the very root of his being. Ignorance about man is not lack of knowledge, but false knowledge." |

Who Is That Man? $26.99 A Kaleidoscopic Look at the Many Faces of Bob Dylan For almost half a century, Bob Dylan has been a primary catalyst in rock’s shifting sensibilities. Few American artists are as important, beloved, and endlessly examined, yet he remains something of an enigma. Who, we ask, is the “real” Bob Dylan? Is he Bobby Zimmerman, yearning to escape Hibbing, Minnesota, or the Woody Guthrie wannabe playing Greenwich Village haunts? Folk Messiah, Born-Again Bob, Late-Elvis Dylan, Jack Fate, or Living National Treasure? In Who Is That Man? , David Dalton—cultural historian, journalist, screenwriter, and novelist—paints a revealing portrait of the rock icon, ingeniously exposing the three-card monte games he plays with his persona. Guided by Dalton’s cutting-edge insights and myth-debunking point of view, Who Is That Man? follows Dylan’s imaginative life, integrating actual events with Dylan’s words and those of the people who know him most intimately. Drawing upon Dylan’s friends and fellow eyewitnesses—including Marianne Faithfull, Allen Ginsberg, Peter Stampfel , Larry “Ratso” Sloman, Eric Andersen, Nat Hentoff, Andrew Oldham, Nat Finkelstein, and others—this book will provide a new perspective on the man, the myth, and the musical era that forged them both. |

The Man Who Was There $3.95 When it first appeared in 1945, this novel disconcerted a good many critics: Agee Ward, "the man who was there" of the title, ostensibly is the man who is not there--a member of the armed forces in World War II, he has been reported missing in action. Yet as we are shown various views of Agee and how he continues to affect the lives of others--among them Grandma Herkimer and Private Reagan, who knew him in boyhood; Peter Spavic and Mrs. Krickbaum, who refuse to believe that he is missing; Miss Gussie Newcomb, his landlady and (to her surprise) his heir--we come to perceive what Agee had in mind when he said "that anything really alive just went on and on." "An odd blend of impressionistic treatment, and realism, down to a photographic accuracy of minutiae--and phonographic record of sound. The man can write."--Kirkus Reviews. "Reading this book gives one the same sort of pleasure and excitement and annoyance that leafing through an album of snapshots and sketches would provide if the album were a joint production of Daguerre, Braque, Grant Wood, Mathew Brady, and the Fresno News staff photographer."--Saturday Review of Literature. One of the most distinguished American authors, Wright Morris (1910-1988) wrote thirty-three books including The Field of Vision, which won the National Book Award. |
