What is good about young children learning about voting?

I know that when children vote e.g. Grade One vote for chalk monitor and Grade Seven vote for school captain then in grade 12 you vote for a group of students to make a school magazine and you vote for the person who is best for the job. I DONT mean parliament elections but what is good about children learning how to vote. They learn decision making processes and judgement but what else do they learn.

Interesting:

* what a good leader is and is not
* how to acknowledge that not everyone thinks the same - you can and do have different views
* bias and how people can be swayed
* numeracy skills if counting and literacy skills by writting speeches ect
* the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few
* that sometimes there can only be one winner and that it may not be you. Important to learn how to deal with this disappointment and acknowledge that not everyone gets what they want. Sad but true.
