Apple iPhone 4 is Available Along With Many Design Problems
Soon it's going to be the start of July and everyone knows what is in store! A brand new iPhone model is about to be released to consumers.
Unbelievably enough the iPhone 4 has it's share of drama around the release, some of the issues as early as Apr of 2010. In early Apr, Gizmodo staff member Jason Chen acquired a then secret iPhone 4 prototype model from a nameless person for a sum of $5,000. Gizmodo.com held intensive coverage of the iPhone 4 and even was mentioned on mainstream reports networks like FoxNews and CNN. His place was later raided by the California Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team and had his PCs grabbed. The reason for the raid on his house was something to do with commercial espionage; but how could you be guilty of that if all that you're doing is buying something? You are not nicking it so whats the issue.
Then when the iPhone was ready for pre-order via computer, the system stopped working but not before over 600,000 preorders had been registered. Not only that, ATTs computers were afflicted by security breaches and folk were accessing other peoples accounts accidentally, and having the ability to see and change other patrons information. There were reports of AT&T stores being shut down because of amount of folks attempting to preorder and the strain of ATTs computers being far too overloaded. Finally, after hours of misunderstanding and inaccuracies, ATT and closed down the pre-order system. Seems like they needed some computer geeks for their computer network.
Mashable journalist Sam Axon reported being mugged while standing in line for the iPhone earlier today in Chicago. His tweet on Twitter was as follows "I was just mugged while waiting in line for the iPhone 4. Not kidding." What's this world coming to? Lastly, many reports are available about iPhone 4 hardware problems. Gizmodo has said that the phone drops calls if a finger is placed on a certain small spot on the lower left side of the body. It turns out you can bridge 2 antenna with your finger which will cause the phone to drop calls. The solution is as simple as a small piece of scotch tape, or put the phone in a case. Its a simple fix but for $500 should this really be an issue?
People have produced evidence that the LCD viewscreen of the iPhone four has issues with showing errant yellow pixels, stripes and spots just from ordinary useage. Most likely Apple will not mend the problem for free and will claim that the user damaged the LCD themselves. Unlike digital camera repair, most people can't repair an iPhone themselves. Honestly, that difficulty should not exist when the pricey product hits the open market. Sony learned that lesson years ago with a huge recall for digital camera repair service to fix the CCD sensor on millions of cameras consumers had previously bought.
Apple has a record of releasing awesome devices, but with the realization that the iPhone 4 was going to be as well liked as it is, they really should have invested more in research and development. It's much easier to handle design problems before you put item into mass production than it is to handle them after the client has purchased the item. No company wants to have to provide millions of buyers with problems after they purchase a product. Maybe Apple will learn a valuable lesson from this release.
