Few Left
Why are there so few left-handed catchers in the majors?
Am I missing something?
Two reasons I can think of is that there's more right-hand hitting batters and that a right handed catcher would have a higher % chance of a free release on a throw to catch runners stealing, specially to 3rd base! The second reason is that a right handed ctcher can decrease the distance for a throw to the plate to make it easier for the catcher to tag out runners.
