Who Says You Can't Write A Best Mans Speech?
A best man is a very important role in every wedding, and to be given this role only indicates that a person cares so much for you to give you this title. There's only one thing, however, that can make this experience dreadful: the best mans speech. Public speaking is not everybody's forte, unless you're in politics where public speaking is almost a daily thing, of if you're into teaching in which talking to various people is an everyday activity.
To help ease your worries and fears, you must do your preparations as soon as possible. When writing the piece, be aware that there are certain characteristics that a speech by a best man must contain.
The first thing to remember is to include a few information about yourself in the best Mans speech. After opening your speech, tell something about yourself and your relationship to the groom—if you're brothers, best buddies, long-time friends, or office colleagues, for instance. You can tell everybody how the groom is as a friend or brother, and then thank him for giving you the honor of being the best man.
Second, you should thank key participants in the wedding—especially the couple, the hosts, and the father of the bride, being the first to deliver a speech.
Anecdotes should also be included in your speech—they serve to keep the speech balanced and are a means of keeping your listeners engaged. Among the sources of your anecdotes could be the events leading to the wedding. You can relate anecdotes about the newly wed as well, and you can tell jokes about the groom. Be aware, however, that you have to keep your stories toned down. Your jokes should not be at the expense of others and shouldn't seriously embarrass anybody—avoid jokes that can cause awkwardness afterwards.
Fourth, the giving of advice should follow after this. If you're also married, you can give advice regarding certain things like the elements of a good and lasting marriage, ways to overcome challenges, and many more. But, even if you're single, you can still share your own ideas on marriage—just be sure they're helpful ideas.
One other obligation of the best man during a speech or after is to read messages sent by people who were were supposed to be in the wedding but were not able to attend.
Finally, you should end the speech by proposing a toast for the new couple. Wish them a happy life together and express your happiness for the love they share.
All the said characteristics of a best mans speech can help you write your own speech and give you more preparation. And when you adhere to consistent practice, you'll have your needed confidence to deliver the speech come that very important day.
