Cars is a typical Disney-Pixar animated movie in that it deals with an anthropomorphic character (here, a car) and the heartwarming values of family and friendship. (Alas, we'll have to wait a little while longer for the company to take on greed and selfishness.) The accompanying soundtrack is equally typical in that it's split between catchy pop songs and a score by Randy Newman. The clear highli...

Although largely ignored by historians of both baseball in general and the Negro leagues in particular, Latinos have been a significant presence in organized baseball from the beginning. In this benchmark study on Latinos and professional baseball from the 1880s to the present, Adrian Burgos tells a compelling story of the men who negotiated the color line at every turnpassing as Spanish in the major leagues or seeking respect and acceptance in the Negro leagues. Burgos draws on archival materials from the U.S., Cuba, and Puerto Rico, as well as Spanish- and English-language publications and interviews with Negro league and major league players. He demonstrates how the manipulation of racial distinctions that allowed management to recruit and sign Latino players provided a template for Brooklyn Dodgers' general manager Branch Rickey when he initiated the dismantling of the color line by signing Jackie Robinson in 1947. Burgos's extensive examination of Latino participation before and after Robinson's debut documents the ways in which inclusion did not signify equality and shows how notions of racialized difference have persisted for darker-skinned Latinos like Orestes ("Minnie") Mioso, Roberto Clemente, and Sammy Sosa.

NFL Americas Game: Washington Redskins

NFL Americas Game: Washington Redskins

$30

Head Coach Joe Gibbs led Washington Redskins to three Super Bowls wins in 11 years and he did it with three different quarterbacks. A players' strike shortened the NFL season to 9 games in 1982 leaving teams scrambling to reach the playoffs. Most clubs were rusty after the layoff- but Gibbs kept Redskins focused. In Super Bowl XVII- it was Joe Theismann who led Washington to victory over the Miami Dolphins. In 1987- Gibbs told Doug Williams that he was being traded to the Raiders but reconsidered just hours later. In Super Bowl XXII Doug Williams' made Gibbs' decision a brilliant one as his passing produced an amazing 35 points in the second quarter alone and he was named the games MVP. Five years later- Gibbs took note of Mark Rypien's ability to throw an accurate- deep pass which- combined with the speed of wide receivers Art Monk- Ricky Sanders and Gary Clark- helped lead the Redskins to victory over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI. The story of the 1982 Redskins is told by Theismann- Guard Russ Grimm and Tight End Rick Walker. Williams- Center Jeff Bostic and Cornerback Darrell Green recount the 1987 Redskins' season. And Hall of Fame Coach- Joe Gibbs- Rypien and Defensive End Charles Mann retell the tale of the 1991 Redskins.

Under the leadership of Al Davis, the Oakland Raiders were one of the dominant NFL teams from the mid-60's, throughout the 70's and even into the early 80's. In 1976, the Raiders won a team record 13 games, defeated the Patriots and Steelers in the playoffs and reached the summit of professional football with their victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI.. Nobody loves reclamation projects more than Davis. Former Heisman Trophy winner, Jim Plunkett was cast out of New England and released by San Francisco before arriving in Oakland in 1978. In week 6 of the 1980 season, Head Coach, Tom Flores, gave Plunkett his chance. With an MVP performance, Plunkett rewarded his team's confidence in him by leading the Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XV. Led by Flores, the 1983 Raiders entered Super Bowl XVIII as underdogs to the highest scoring team in the NFL, the Washington Redskins. But the Raiders held that offense to just 9 points and manhandled the Redskins 38-9 to win their third Vince Lombardi Trophy. The story of the 1976 Raiders is told by Hall of Fame Head Coach, John Madden, Quarterback Ken Stabler and Linebacker Phil Villapiano. Plunkett, Linebacker Matt Millen and Hall of Fame Guard, Gene Upshaw recount the Raiders season of 1980. And the Raiders championship season of 1983 is retold by Hall of Fame Running Back, Marcus Allen, Tight End Todd Christenson and Defensive Tackle Howie Long, another Hall of Famer.

NFL Americas Game: Miami Dolphins DVD

NFL Americas Game: Miami Dolphins DVD

$24.99

Miami Dolphins of the early 1970s weren't especially big, quick, or flashy, and they were soundly beaten by Dallas in Super Bowl VI, but they earned their place in history the following year, becoming the only team in National Football League history to go undefeated (17-0). The Dolphins' "No Name Defense" of 1972 gave up the fewest points in the league, while the offense-playing most of the year without Pro Bowl quarterback Bob Griese-relied heavily on the ground game. Running backs Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris ran for over 1,000 yards each (an NFL first). Griese returned for the postseason and led Miami to a 14-7 victory over George Allen's Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII, completing the Dolphins' perfect season. It was a dilemma no other NFL team had ever faced: How do you improve on perfection? But head coach Don Shula believes that the 1973 Dolphins were even better than the team that went undefeated a year before. In Super Bowl VIII, the Dolphins pummeled the Minnesota Vikings for their second-straight world championship. Americas' Game features exclusive interviews with Larry Csonka, Don Shula and Manny Fernandez (The 1972 Miami Dolphins) and Mercury Morris, Dick Anderson and Bob Kuechenberg (The 1973 Miami Dolphins). Join NFL Films as they recount the stories of the '72 Dolphins' run to 17-0 and the '73 Dolphins' success in defending their Super Bowl title.

NFL Americas Game: NY Giants DVD

NFL Americas Game: NY Giants DVD

$24.99

The New York Giants hadn't won an NFL championship in 30 years before Bill Parcells' led them to two Super Bowl victories in 5 years. 1986 the Giants were loaded. On defense, Lawrence Taylor, considered by many to be the best Outside Linebacker ever to play the game, won the NFL MVP Award. He and Middle Linebacker, Harry Carson, both future Hall of Famers, led an overwhelming defense. On offense, the Giants were led by Tight End Mark Bavaro, 1500 yard rusher, Joe Morris and Quarterback Phil Simms, a good quarterback who had yet to prove he could be great. In Super Bowl XXI he did just that with a precision passing game that is unmatched as the Giants defeated the Broncos 39-20. Four years later, injuries threatened to ruin the Giants' 1990 season. With 2 weeks to go in the regular season, Simms was lost for the remainder of the year and it would be up to an untested, back-up, Jeff Hostetler to lead the team into the playoffs. Although he had thrown barely more than 100 passes in the previous 6 seasons, Hostetler exceeded all expectations, winning 5 straight starts including a victory over the Bills in Super Bowl XXV, one of the most exciting games in Super Bowl history.

NFL Americas Game: Green Bay Packers DVD

NFL Americas Game: Green Bay Packers DVD

$29.99

In nine seasons as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi won five NFL championships. The last two came in 1966 and '67-the years of the first two Super Bowls. Nearly 30 years later, Mike Holmgren's Packers brought the Lombardi Trophy home again, and Green Bay was "Titletown" once more. In January, 1967, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Green Bay faced the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League in what was then called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, later renamed Super Bowl I. The '66 Packers were loaded with seasoned veterans like Bart Starr, Jerry Kramer, and Ray Nitschke. But Green Bay's victory in Super Bowl I owed much to an unlikely hero-a 34-year-old receiver named Max McGee, who had caught only four passes all season and had stayed out all night before the game. Lombardi's strategy was simple and predictable: here's the power sweep and the fly pattern-now try and stop us. It worked because Lombardi was relentless in his pursuit of perfection. The Packers' epic run through the '67 post-season was the final proof of their-and Lombardi's-greatness. A victory over Dallas in the legendary "Ice Bowl" secured a third-straight NFL title. Then, in Lombardi's final game with the Packers, they crushed Oakland in Super Bowl II. In the 1990s, head coach Mike Holmgren developed quarterback Brett Favre into an NFL MVP who could execute his west-coast offense in spectacular fashion. Holmgren's work paid off in 1996, when Favre's offense tied a franchise record for wins and led the league in scoring on the way to the Super Bowl. All-Pro defensive end Reggie White spearheaded a defense that gave up the fewest points in the NFL that year. But it was return man Desmond Howard who made the greatest impact against New England in Super Bowl XXXI.

NFL Americas Game: Denver Broncos DVD

NFL Americas Game: Denver Broncos DVD

$24.99

The Denver Broncos have one of the greatest winning traditions of any NFL team in the years since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. But although the Broncos had made it to the Super Bowl four times (XII, XXI, XXII, and XXIV), they had come up short each time. That all changed in the late '90s. In 1997, entering his 15th NFL season, Denver quarterback John Elway had one thing missing from his resume: a Super Bowl ring. This year, Elway had all the help he needed-head coach Mike Shanahan, one of the most innovative minds in football; Terrell Davis, the AFC's leading rusher; and a defense studded with stars like Steve Atwater, Shannon Sharpe, and Neil Smith. Denver finished the regular season at 12-4 and entered the playoffs as a wild card. Three playoff victories later, the Broncos had reached Super Bowl XXXII. There, against the defending champion Green Bay Packers, Elway captured that elusive championship. With just three games left in the 1998 season, the 13-0 Denver Broncos looked like they might join the 1972 Miami Dolphins as the only undefeated teams in NFL history. At the age of 38, quarterback John Elway was still playing like he was in his prime, and Terrell Davis was on his way to breaking the 2,000-rushing -yards barrier (the 4th in NFL history). The '98 Broncos didn't break the '72 Dolphins' monopoly on perfect NFL seasons-they were upset by the New York Giants in Week 15-but they did repeat as Super Bowl Champions. Elway threw for 336 yards and won MVP honors in his final game, as Denver defeated the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII. America's Game: The Denver Broncos features exclusive interviews with Elway, Shanahan, Smith and Howard Griffith (1997) and with Davis, Sharpe and Mark Schlereth (1998). Join NFL Films as they tell the stories of the '97 and '98 Broncos, who won back-to-back Super Bowls and sent their Hall-of-Fame quarterback out in style.

NFL Americas Game: New England Patriots DVD

NFL Americas Game: New England Patriots DVD

$29.99

With three Super Bowl wins in four years (2001-2004)-a feat equaled only by the Dallas Cowboys-the New England Patriots have established themselves as the first NFL dynasty of the 21st Century. In Week 2 of the 2001 season, Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe took a vicious blow from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis, and the 2001 season seemed lost. But backup Tom Brady stepped in-and New England sports history was changed forever. By the time Bledsoe returned, Brady had compiled a 5-3 record as a starter, and head coach Bill Belichick stayed with him. That decision paid off in the final minutes of Super Bowl XXXVI, when Brady drove the Patriots 53 yards to set up the biggest kick of Adam Vinatieri's career - a 48-yarder for the title. Less than a week before the start of the 2003 season, Belichick made another risky decision, releasing Pro Bowl safety and team captain Lawyer Milloy. His replacement, Rodney Harrison, won respect with his aggressive play and was voted a defensive captain after only a few games. Harrison and linebackers Tedy Bruschi and Willie McGinest led a defense that allowed the fewest points in the league that season. In Super Bowl XXXVIII, Tom Brady out-gunned the Carolina Panthers, 32-29, and won his second Super Bowl MVP award in three years. Halloween, 2004, was a nightmare for New England: Ben Roethlisberger's Steelers ended the Patriots' NFL-record 21-game winning streak and dealt a season-ending injury to All-Pro cornerback Ty Law. More injuries followed as the season progressed, weakening a once-dominant defense-but New England played on with a patchwork secondary that included 33-year-old wide receiver Troy Brown at nickel back. After the Patriots won the rematch against Big Ben for the AFC Championship, all that stood between them and a third world title in four seasons was the most fearsome receiver in the game-Philadelphia's Terrell Owens, in Super Bowl XXXIX.

NFL Americas Game: San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XXIII

$20

A world championship was at stake- and the San Francisco 49ers were in a panic. Trailing 16 to 13 late in Super Bowl XXIII- the offense was 92 yards away from a championship. It was a moment for legends. Bit by bit- Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana marched the 49ers the length of the field. His 10 yard scoring strike to John Taylor with 34 ticks left on the clock lifted the Niners to a third Super Bowl title. The drive was a culmination of a seasons worth of execution- raw athleticism- and tenacity for the 88 49ers. Despite a quarterback controversy and a 6 5 start- the team never lost their focus. Join NFL Films as they retell the story of the 88 Niners- a club that sealed the 49er dynasty. Americas Game uses exclusive interviews from Bill Walsh- Harris Barton and Roger Craig to recount the exciting story behind San Francisco’s third championship season.
